Salary: $80,000 + DOE

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and coordinating the grant application process, managing proposals and reporting, and maintaining a grant calendar for Sierra Vista Child & Family Services. This role has experience in nonprofit fundraising, excellent writing and communication skills, and a passion for supporting programs that benefit children, youth, and families. The Grant Writer is key to advancing Sierra Vista's community transformation vision by securing funding that will directly impact behavioral health, access to quality services, and family stability in under-resourced communities.


Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; or a minimum of five years of grant writing experience
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in successful grant writing for nonprofit organizations, preferably within the youth and family services sector. Preference for experience in writing for grants over $1 million.
  3. Proven success in securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  4. Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an emphasis on clarity and persuasiveness.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with grant management software or databases.
  6. A valid California driver's license is required of staff who have regular driving duties and the driving record must meet the requirements of their position and be approved by the agency's insurance company.
  7. Familiarity with local, state, and federal grant application processes preferred.
  8. Knowledge of fundraising trends and nonprofit sector best practices preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
  1. Operate an agency vehicle or personal vehicle for work-related activities, which may include visiting clients, attending meetings, transporting materials, and participating in community or agency events. Maintain a valid driver's license, current vehicle registration, and insurance in compliance with agency policy and state law
  2. Ability to communicate ideas in oral and written form.

  5. Ability to work effectively with cultural/ethnic diversity.

Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct thorough research to identify grant opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, and corporate donors that align with the organization's mission and programs.
  2. Monitor grant databases and other resources to identify new funding opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  3. Write compelling grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, programs, and goals.
  4. Tailor each proposal to meet the specific requirements of each grant opportunity.
  5. Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather necessary information for proposals, including data, budgets, and program objectives.
  6. Develop and maintain a grant calendar to track deadlines for applications, reports, and renewals.
  7. Ensure timely submission of grant proposals and supporting documents.
  8. Prepare and submit grant reports to funders, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
  9. Work closely with the Program Directors and Executives to create a comprehensive grant strategy that aligns with the organization's overall vision.
  10. Collaborate with program directors to develop and refine program descriptions, budgets, and outcomes that will be used in proposals.
  11. Assist in developing funding strategies for new and existing programs.
Other:

  3. Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  4. Report any suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
  5. Report any client imminent danger to self or to others or gravely disabled immediately to direct supervisor or utilize the chain of command if supervisor is unavailable.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Travel requirements: Must be able to hold office hours in Modesto at least one day a week with the ability to travel to agency programs and sites as needed.

Compensation: Salary plus up to $2,000 in annual performance-based bonuses. Bonus structure is tied to clear performance metrics, including total funding secured, strategic alignment and active research on relevant grants. This position includes full benefits, professional development support, and the opportunity to lead transformational funding initiatives across state, federal, and philanthropic sources.

$2,000/year for conferences, grant writing technical development, or proposal review coaching.
